دوستان گرامی! اصلاح کنید! نه انقلاب!

ایران اکنون در برابر انتخاب‌هایی قرار گرفته‌ که مسیر آینده کشور را برای نسل‌ها شکل خواهد داد. امروز ما با دو رویکرد متفاوت برای تغییر رو به ‌رو هستیم. تغییرات تدریجی و اصلاح ‌محور، و یا دگرگونی‌ سریع و انقلابی. هر یک از این دو روش، مسیرها و پیامدهای خاص خود را به همراه خواهد داشت. تصمیم‌گیری درباره اینکه جامعه ما چگونه متحول شود نیازمند رای دقیق ما است. تصمیم ما نیاز به مشارکت آگاهانه در گفتگوی ملی دارد. آنچه امروز انتخاب می‌شود، فردای جامعه را می‌سازد و یا ویران می‌کند. امروز ما دو راه پیش رو داریم: انقلاب یا اصلاح. به عنوان کسی که شاهد انقلاب ۵۷ بود و ده‌ها نفر از خانواده و دوستان خود را در آن انقلاب از دست داد این کلمات را می‌نویسم. به عنوان کسی که شاهد شکل گرفتن و تاثیرگذاری جنبش اصلاحی در دهه ۱۳۷۰ بود نظر خود را بیان می‌کنم. امروز، انقلاب و سرنگونی حکومت در ایران به درگیری‌های قهرآمیز منجر خواهد شد. انقلاب و سیاست حذفی موجب ویرانی‌ بزرگتری از انقلاب ۵۷ خواهد بود. می‌پذیرم که اصلاحات به زمان و سرمایه‌گذاری نیازمند است. می‌پذیرم که تضمین صد در صدی برای موفقیت ندارد. اما حرکت حساب شده، قابل مدیریت، خشونت پرهیز و گام به گام هزینه کمتر و پیامد‌ مثبت‌تری خواهد داشت. باید مبارزه کرد. باید برای اهداف عالی اجتماعی سرمایه گذاشت. باید برای افق روشن‌تری کوشید. اما حرکت سیاسی نیاز به برنامه و همزیستی با دیگر نیروهای اجتماعی دارد. رای من به اصلاح است. رای من به سیاست برنامه ریزی شده است. رای من به پرهیز از یک انقلاب ویرانگر دیگر است.

Dear friends! Seek Reform! Not Revolution!

Iran is now faced with choices that will shape the future course of the country for generations. Today, we face two different approaches to change: Gradual, reform-oriented change, or rapid, revolutionary transformation. Each of these two approaches will have its own paths and consequences. Deciding how our society will transform requires our careful consideration. Our decision requires informed participation in a national dialogue. What is chosen today will either make or destroy society’s tomorrow. Today, we have two paths ahead of us: Revolution or Reform. I write these words as someone who witnessed the 1979 revolution and lost dozens of family and friends in that process. I express my opinion as someone who witnessed the formation and impact of the reform movement in the 1990s. Today, the revolution and overthrow of the government in Iran will lead to violent conflicts. The revolution and the policy of elimination will cause greater destruction than the 1957 revolution. I accept that reform requires time and investment. I accept that there is no one-hundred-percent guarantee of success. But a calculated, manageable, nonviolent, step-by-step movement will cost less and have a more positive outcome. We must fight. We must invest in high social goals. We must strive for a brighter horizon. But political movement requires a plan as well as coexistence with other social forces. My vote is for reform. My vote is for a process of planned politics. My vote is to avoid another destructive revolution.
